50th Bieg Piastów - why will the starts be earlier?
The 50th Bieg Piastów will start earlier than in previous years. For example, the 50km race will start at 8:00 a.m., while the 30km race will start at 8:00 a.m., and the 25 km race will start at 9:00 a.m.
We decided this because the earlier start:
1. Greater guarantee of lower temperatures and better course conditions.
2. Greater chance of avoiding traffic jams on the way to Jakuszyce.
3. Lower risk of problems with pedestriants, which can be quite common in Jakuszyce during the holiday weekend.
In addition:
4. Free shuttle buses will be provided to all interested racers to the start.
5. As part of our cooperation with the accommodation industry and the city of Szklarska Poręba, we will inform hotel managers about the need to organize earlier breakfasts.
6. An 8 a.m. start is nothing unusual in the world of mass participation races—both ski races, ultramarathons, and classic street marathons. Organizers make such decisions for climatic reasons: in winter, by early starts, they aim for lower temperatures, thus providing better skiing conditions, and in summer, they aim to limit the race's duration in time of high temperatures. In cities, it's also about minimizing disruption to residents caused by street closures for marathons.
7. Because we ourselves compete in long-distance ski races, road marathons, and ultramarathons, we adhere to the principle that race packages must be collected the day before the start. This is not left until the last minute. This necessitates overnight accommodation at the event venue or nearby. Jakuszyce, Szklarska Poręba, and the entire Jelenia Góra Valley, as well as Harrachov, offer thousands of accommodations. A smooth commute from the center of Jelenia Góra to Jakuszyce takes approximately 35-40 minutes.
8. We kindly ask you to consider these arguments and understand our decision.
